Cat Scratch
Fever was my first
experience with Terrible Ted in the late 1970’s. I still remember hearing this
album and Thin Lizzy’s Jailbreak in the same day. I was hooked then and
am still hooked. In my humble opinion, this is definitely Ted Nugent’s finest
album. Each and every track oozes a toxic blend of testosterone and massive
volume. Ted seems more comfortable with heavy rock n roll here than on any
other album. From the edginess of the title track to the blunt sexual nature of
Wang Dang Sweet Poontang, this album was every teenage guy’s soundtrack
in the 70’s. There was no better feeling than rolling the windows down in the
car and driving 80 mph to this album (in my case, my mom’s 1973 Dodge
Dart). Death By Misadventure, Fist
Fightin’ Son Of A Gun, the fun-loving Sweet Sally and the awesome Out
Of Control are the other heaviest tunes besides the aforementioned tracks,
but the entire album is a damn fine piece of work . There just isn’t a weak
track in the bunch. Not only is the songwriting superior, but the production
and the band’s performance are top notch. With this album, Ted Nugent also
established himself as a guitar (madman) god, as well as a consummate showman.
As an outstanding example of heavy music
in the 70’s, I would definitely rank this album very, very high.
